Integrated Oceans Management

Integrated Oceans Management is a proactive approach towards sound oceans management. It is an ongoing and collaborative planning process that brings together interested parties, stakeholders and regulators to reach general agreement on the best mix of conservation, sustainable use and economic development of coastal and marine areas for the benefit of all Canadians.

The Oceans Act calls for the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to lead and facilitate the development and implementation of plans for the Integrated Management of all activities or measures affecting estuaries, coastal and marine waters. However, successful integrated management involves the active participation of all Canadians, each of whom holds a direct or indirect responsibility for the conservation and protection of Canada's oceans and its resources.

This site provides information on activities that promote cooperation and information exchange of interests and initiatives taking place in Canada's coastal and marine ecosystems.
