New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui underwent knee surgery Wednesday, but is expected to be ready for spring training.
Matsui, 33, had his right knee cleaned out by Dr. Scott Rodeo at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery.

Matsui hit .285 with 25 home runs, 103 runs batted in and 100 runs scored in 143 games last season, his fifth in New York.
His aching knee frequently forced him to be the designated hitter rather than play in left field, where he has been a fixture since making his major-league debut with the Yankees on March 31, 2003.
Matsui, a three-time most valuable player in the Japanese Central League, rejected a four-year, $33-million US offer from the Yomiuri Giants to join the Yankees.
Drafted first overall by Yomiuri in 1993, he hit .304 with 332 HRs and 889 RBIs in 10 JCL seasons.
Matsui is a .295 hitter overall with 103 HRs, 462 RBIs and 431 runs in 681 MLB games with New York, which initially inked him to a three-year, $21.5-million US contract on Dec. 19, 2002.
He signed a four-year, $52-million US extension on Nov. 15, 2005.
