Visual Arts, Media Arts and Fine Crafts

The International Cultural Relations Division provides grants to Canadian artists and art institutions in order to promote Canadian culture abroad. Grants are awarded to applicants to take on the role as cultural ambassadors in the countries in which the art will be exhibited. Travel grants for incoming familiarization visits support international business development. Promoting Canadian culture to the world is important because it has a direct impact on foreign policy, tourism, immigration, business and investment.

There are currently five types of grants available for the visual/media arts and fine crafts. To learn more about these grants, click on the program eligibility criteria. It is very important that grant applicants contact the Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad to discuss their activities in that country.

The Program for Export Market Development (PEMD), for Associations, provides financial support (contributions) to Canadian national sectoral associations for the generic promotion of their industry's products or services. For more information, visit the Program for Export Market Development website.

Trade associations in the Visual Arts, Media Arts and Fine Craft industries may be eligible to apply to PEMD-Associations. In Fiscal Year 2007-08 there are no PEMD-Associations contribution agreements with any Visual Arts, Media Arts or Fine Craft associations.

The Promart grant program and PEMD-Associations contribution program are administered in consultation with Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad. Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada offers access to Canadian cultural representatives and trade promotion specialists in Canadian Embassies and Consulates abroad, who are dedicated to promoting Canadian culture internationally, marketing Canadian capabilities, and helping companies realize their export development objectives. Consult our representatives for more information.
