State of Trade 2007 | pdf
Canada's State of Trade: Trade and Investment Update – 2007 highlights Canada's solid international commercial performance last year but also notes that this was largely due to strong demand for resource and resource-based products. Although exports rose by 1.1% for the year, growth would have been negative if it were not for resources and resource-based products. Imports increased by 4.2% in 2006 driven by strong consumer demand and an appreciation of the dollar. As a result, Canada trade surplus narrowed to $37.2 billion. FDI flows into Canada surged to $78.3 billion in 2006 while net outward investments were still strong at $51.3 billion.

This year's report also includes a special feature on The Rise of Global Value Chains.

Trade Policy Research 2006
