MINISTER HEARN APPOINTS BOARD MEMBERS TO THE FRESHWATER FISH MARKETING CORPORATION

January  29, 2007

OTTAWA – The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced the appointment of Gail Wood to the Board of Directors of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation (FFMC). Minister Hearn also announced the reappointment of Robert L. Patterson to the FFMC Board.

"I am very pleased that these dedicated people have accepted these positions," said Minister Hearn. "Mr. Patterson’s knowledge continues to be valued by the FFMC, and Mrs. Wood’s experience in the fishery is certainly a welcome addition. I wish them every success in their duties."

For more than 25 years, Robert L. Patterson has worked for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. He currently is the area supervisor for the Sioux Lookout District, where he is responsible for resource management programs for area fishery, wildlife, forestry, crown land and water resources.

Gail Wood has more than 30 years of experience as a commercial fisher, fish buyer and retailer. In 1985, she helped establish Woods Fresh Fish, a family run business that has a strong presence in the Edmonton area.

Minister Hearn also thanked Dave McArthur for his dedicated service to the Corporation. Mr. McArthur retired after 25 years as the Alberta director.

The FFMC is a Crown corporation established in 1969 under the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act to improve returns to freshwater commercial fishers in western Canada, while operating on a self-sustaining basis.
