Subsistence Lobster Fishery For The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Community
September 14, 2007

QUEBEC CITY – The Listuguj Mi’gmaq community will carry out an activity of subsistence lobster fishing in Chaleur Bay between September 16 and October 8, 2007. This fishery is a part of an agreement between the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government and the Department authorizing this type of harvest to this Aboriginal community in the Gaspe.

A strict monitoring protocol has been established, and DFO fishery officers will closely monitor activities. The Listuguj Mi’gmaq community officers will also inspect landings, compile statistics and assist in efforts to prevent poaching, in collaboration with the Department’s fishery officers. The Aboriginal people will fish only in fishing area 21B (Chaleur Bay) and are entitled to use a maximum of 500 traps in total.
