LOWER MATTAGAMI HYDROELECTRIC COMPLEX REDEVELOPMENT

Ontario Power Generation Lower Mattagami Hydroelectric Complex Redevelopment

Consultation on the Proposed Scope of the Project and Availability of Participant Funding

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is proposing to redevelop the Lower Mattagami Hydroelectric Complex, located approximately 70 km northeast of Kapuskasing. Little Long, Harmon and Kipling generating stations will be expanded with the addition of a turbine/generator and the Smoky Falls site will be redeveloped to accommodate a new generating station.

The project is subject to a comprehensive study under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as the federal responsible authority for the project assessment, now invites the public to comment on the proposed scope of the project, the factors to be considered and the ability of the comprehensive study to address issues relating to the project.

Written submissions received by Fisheries and Oceans Canada by May 14, 2007 will be considered. Interested persons may submit their comments in the official language of their choice to:

Note: All documents and/or comments received by Fisheries and Oceans Canada regarding this project are considered public and will become part of the public registry for this project. Availability of $50,000 in Participant Funding

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) has made $50,000 available under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups and/or individuals to take part in the environmental assessment of this proposed project.

To receive funding, successful applicants must participate in the environmental assessment process of the hydroelectric redevelopment project. Funding applications received by the Agency at the address indicated below by May 14, 2007 will be considered.

Information on the Program, including the Participant Funding Program Guide, the application form and the contribution agreement that describes the obligations of each party and the conditions for payments, is on the Agency's website.
