EnCana Corporation is proposing to conduct a gas development project offshore Nova Scotia in the Deep Panuke field, approximately 250 km southeast of Halifax. The initial well program will consist of re-completing four existing production wells, drilling one new injection well in Margaree and one new production well in Panuke. Up to three new production wells could be drilled after first gas in Cohasset, Deep Cohasset, Panuke or Margaree. The main project components include a Mobile Offshore Production Unit, subsea flowlines and umbilicals, subsea wells, and export pipeline.
In accordance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the responsible authorities for this project (Canada Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, National Energy Board, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Transport Canada and Industry Canada) have undertaken a comprehensive study of the project and have submitted their report to the Minister of the Environment and to the Agency. Following the public comment period on the report, and upon review of the comments received, the Minister of the Environment will issue an environmental assessment decision statement. The statement will be posted on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry on the Agency’s Web site.
