The Business Case for Active Living at Work

The Business Case for Active Living at Work is Canada's only comprehensive Web site dedicated to highlighting the benefits of being active at and around the workplace. It makes the case for the business benefits of an active workforce and gives employers the tools they need to start their own workplace activity strategies.

The Web site will be particularly helpful to human resource specialists, employee wellness and fitness professionals, union officials and CEOs looking to attract and keep highly-trained workers, as well as employees who want to improve the quality of their work environment.

During the development phase of the Business Case, Health Canada hosted a series of consultation meetings with a wide range of private, public and non-profit organizations from various sectors to foster the advancement of active living in the workplace. The coast-to-coast meetings reviewed Health Canada's leadership role in supporting the establishment of active living policies and programs in the workplace, and invited feedback and discussion on progress in developing the Business Case.

The participants in this consultation initiative made it clear that, to be most effective, physical activity in the workplace must continue to be positioned as an essential component of comprehensive workplace health and wellness.

The Business Case for Active Living at Work is a partnership of Health Canada and the Canadian Council for Health and Active Living at Work, a not-for-profit group of volunteers dedicated to promoting healthier workplaces by providing leadership and support to active living professionals and the Canadian business community. The launch of the Business Case follows the release, by Health Canada and its partners, of Next link will open in a new window Canada's Physical Activity Guide, the country's first-ever set of national guidelines designed to help Canadians improve their health and well-being through regular physical activity.
