The Canadian Telework Association

The Canadian Telework Association (CTA) is a Canadian non-profit telework association dedicated to promoting telework in Canada.

We have well over 1,000 members, primarily from Canada, but also from dozens of countries. They include individuals, corporate bodies (small, medium and large), academics, and governments (at all levels).

No membership fees / low operating costs

The CTA was designed to run without funding.  Since our start in 1997, we have not accepted any funding nor membership fees.

To "stay afloat", we must manage our association without many of the administrative costs (paper, phone, mailing etc.) faced by most associations. For example, having a shared website (with space donated by InnoVisions Canada), is one way are able to keep costs to a minimum. This shared site focuses almost entirely on content, which is perfect for both  organizations who consider that "content is king".

We also minimize costs by practicing what we preach, that is, working remotely. For example, our board of directors have not had one face to face meeting. Also, we try not to use paper to send messages, thereby saving postal fees and trees. Our costs are so modest that we have not needed to pass them on to members at this point.  Free membership means we are able to attract more members, which in turn, helps our cause.

CTA's objectives

provide national leadership for the promotion and development of telework, and telework programs and initiatives across all of Canada
build a national network of telework experts and resources
join hands with other major telework associations and initiatives around the globe
become the leading source of information and recommendations for the private sector, government, and media
seek endorsement for telework from public, private and media decision-makers
provide an open forum for the exchange of information between members

General activities

form strong associations to unite the major telework players in promoting the concept
develop CTA's Web site, linked with other key sites worldwide
represent the Canadian telework community before government and regulatory bodies on issues relating to broad social policy
seek the endorsement, support and participation of high-level industry and government officials towards a national telework agenda
recognize key achievers in the field of telework
