What’s New:

Job Descriptions: An Employers' Handbook

We are pleased to announce the release of Job Descriptions: An Employers' Handbook - a new tool designed to help small and medium-sized organizations with their human resources management activities.

Based on the National Occupational Classification (NOC), this handbook can help users to develop job descriptions to hire employees, evaluate employee performance and identify training needs.

NOC Web Service

Does your organization need to access live NOC data? If so, contact us to learn more about our NOC Web Service, which is now available, and how this innovation can save your organization time and money.

NOC 2006

The NOC Web site now reflects NOC 2006 information. While no modifications to the structure of the NOC took place in 2006, users can expect to find:

  • Minor editorial changes made to a small number of Unit Group titles
  • Review and updates performed to over 150 of the 520 Unit Group descriptions that include Lead Statement, Main Duties, Employment Requirements, Additional Information and Classified Elsewhere sections
  • Modifications and/or new titles, including gender-specific titles added to the existing NOC Index of Titles

Coming Soon:

  • We're listening! - Based on users' feedback, a new look and added features to the NOC Web site are planned for early 2008.
  • The Career Handbook, the counselling version of the NOC, continues to be available and is currently being updated to reflect NOC 2006. Look for the revised information to appear on this site in the summer of 2008.

About the NOC:

The NOC is the authoritative resource on occupational information in Canada. It is used daily by thousands of people to understand the jobs found throughout Canada's labour market. The NOC provides a standardized framework for organizing the world of work in a coherent system and is implemented in a number of major services and products throughout the private and public sectors.

The NOC is updated in partnership with Statistics Canada according to 5 year Census cycles. It is based on extensive occupational research and consultation conducted across the country, reflecting the evolution of the Canadian labour market.
