The Canada in the World Web site is host to an ongoing series of policy eDiscussions.
The goal of these eDiscussions is to provide Canadians the opportunity for discussion and input into policy development.

Current eDiscussion: Canada's Role in North America
Sept. 24 to Nov. 30, 2007

  eDiscussions Quick Facts...

  • Canada was the first country to seek out citizens' direct participation in eDiscussions in foreign policy creation, and others are now emulating this model.

  • eDiscussions are held twice a year - fall and winter/spring.

  • Each eDiscussion has a resource section profiling the Government of Canada’s position on the issue being discussed. The resource section also includes video interviews with experts.

  • University classes are invited to provide “Policy Position Papers” as input into the eDiscussion as well as content for the resource section.

  • eDiscussion topics are selected and supported by policy makers working in relevant divisions of the department seeking Canadian public opinion in their policy planning process.
