Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Sites Remediation Project
Public Comment Requested on a Draft Agreement for a Joint Environmental Assessment Panel

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) and Nova Scotia Environment and Labour (NSEL) invite the public to comment on a draft agreement for a joint panel review of the proposed Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens Sites Remediation Project. Written comments, in either official language, received no later than July 7, 2005 will be considered. After taking public comments into account, the agreement will be finalized and made public.

A copy of the draft agreement can be found on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry Web site and the Nova Scotia Environment and Labour's Web site. The draft document can also be obtained from or viewed at the centres listed below.

The final agreement will set out the mandate and authorities of the joint review panel, its composition and project review procedures. The joint review will satisfy the requirements of both the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and the Nova Scotia Environment Act.
