Public Opinion Research

It is now a legal requirement for institutions to send written Public Opinion Research reports to Library and Archives Canada within six months of completion of data collection to make them available to the public. This new Government of Canada policy came into effect on August 1, 2006.

The reports conducted by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada are posted on the Library and Archives Canada website.

Any questions regarding these reports can be directed to kevin.chappell@international.gc.ca. The reports are posted in the language in which the research was conducted. Pursuant to the Communications Policy of the Government of Canada procedures, an Executive Summary in both official languages is included in all final reports.

To obtain public opinion research reports conducted by this Department prior to August 1, 2006 please contact Library and Archives Canada.

Library and Archives Canada has an extensive collection of older public opinion research reports submitted by federal departments and agencies. If a report was provided in electronic form, it will be available in Library and Archives Canada's electronic collection of public opinion research reports, which can be browsed in alphabetical order by department at: http://epe.lac-bac.gc.ca/100/200/301/pwgsc-tpsgc/por-ef/index.html.

Hard copies of reports on research can be obtained by contacting Library and Archives Canada:
