2007/10/23 Additional results for the Discovery Accelerator Supplements program
2007/09/14 A Summary of Changes to the Tri-Agency Financial Administration Guide is now available. This summary highlights important changes made to this year's guide which are in effect as of September 14, 2007.
2007/09/10 Due to increases in applications, NSERC is restructuring the following Grant Selection Committees effective immediately: Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering (GSC 4), Civil Engineering (GSC 6), Psychology: Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science (GSC 12), and Cell Biology (GSC 32). These new structures will be revisited as part of the GSC Structure Review Initiative currently taking place at NSERC, and may be adjusted thereafter.

2007/04/17 Budget information for the Special Research Opportunity (SRO) program has been included under the Review Procedures and Program Budget section of the SRO program description.
2007/03/28 The deadline for submitting a Notification of Intent to Apply to the Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) Grant (Form 182) is May 1, 2007.
2007/03/20 2007 Grants Competition Results
2007/03/16 The deadline for submitting a preliminary application for the 2007 competition of the Chairs in Design Engineering (CDE) and Chairs in Environmental Design Engineering (CEDE) programs is June 25, 2007. Application and program information will be updated on NSERC’s Web site by the end of March  2007.
2007/03/12 University researchers can now apply to the new Strategic Workshops Program (SWP) for a grant to organize a workshop. The target areas of this three-year pilot initiative are identical to those targeted by the Strategic Project Grants and Strategic Network Grants programs.
2007/03/07 The deadline date for submitting a Letter of Intent to Apply for a Major Resources Support Grant (Form 181) for the 2008 competition is May 1, 2007. A screening process will be in effect for this and future competitions.
2007/02/02 The deadline date for receipt of preliminary applications to the Strategic Network Grants program is March 30, 2007.
2007/02/01 Changes have been made to three Strategic Project Grants (SPG) Program target area descriptions: Healthy Environment and Ecosystems, Safety and Security, and Sustainable Energy Systems.
2006/12/22 Discovery Grant applicants who demonstrate a critical need for additional financial assistance to pursue highly innovative and ground-breaking research could qualify for an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement.
2006/12/11 The 2006-2007 Strategic Project Grants competition results are now available. NSERC received 431 applications, and the success rate was an impressive 30.9 per cent.
2006/11/08 The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)/NSERC Research Partnerships Program will end on March 31, 2007. New applications to the program will not be accepted after November 30, 2006. Existing commitments to ongoing projects will be honoured.

Request for Proposals – Inter-American Collaboration in Materials Research

Funding opportunities for collaborative activities in materials research between researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States. The deadline for Letter of Intent submission is August 28, 2006 and the deadline for application submission is October 16, 2006.

Further to the decision to terminate the Discovery Grants Reallocations Exercise in its previous form, NSERC has decided that future reallocation or allocation mechanisms will be based on Grant Selection Committee population dynamics (discipline dynamics) and the cost of research. On June 7, 2005, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) posted Updated Guidelines for Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Research on its Web site. NSERC and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) have an interim agreement with CIHR whereby the three agencies have agreed, as a condition of funding, to have their researchers adhere to the CIHR Updated Guidelines, until such time as they can be incorporated into the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.

NSERC recently consulted with its stakeholders to develop a new strategic plan for its Scholarships and Fellowships (S&F) Division. To enable us to complete our consultation phase and finalize the S&F plan, please review the document and provide us with your comments at your earliest convenience.

2007/02/22 The National Research Council Canada has withdrawn from NSERC’s Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories (VF) program.

NSERC is still accepting applications on behalf of more than 10 other government departments and agencies. Fellowships are valued at close to $44,000 and are awarded annually to promising emerging scientists and engineers. Read the VF program description for more details.

It has the same objectives as the Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship Program (IPS), but applies only to students registered at Quebec universities and working with an industrial sponsor in Quebec.
