Role of Canada's National Contact Point
All countries adhering to the Guidelines are required to establish a National Contact Point (NCP). The
role of the NCPs is to ensure the effective implementation and promotion of the Guidelines. The NCPs
are expected to operate in accordance with the core criteria of visibility, accessibility, transparency and
accountability.
The Canadian NCP is an interdepartmental committee with representatives from a number of federal government departments. These departments include Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, Industry Canada, Human Resources and Social Development Canada, Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, the Department of Finance and the Canadian International Development Agency.
Canada's NCP is the domestic focal point for all matters related to the Guidelines. Its main
responsibilities are:
- promotion of the Guidelines in Canada;
- responding to inquiries;
- contributing to the resolution of issues related to the Guidelines;
- cooperating with other NCPs;
- reporting annually to the OECD on its activities.

Contacting a National Contact Point
Questions, comments and views about the Guidelines or the NCP are welcomed from all interested
parties. The coordinates for the Canadian NCP are provided below.
If you wish to raise a matter concerning corporate behaviour in relation to the Guidelines, it should be
raised with the NCP in the country where the issue originated. If the country in question does not
adhere to the Guidelines and therefore does not have a NCP, the matter may be raised with the NCP
of the country where the MNE is based.
Please bear in mind that, given the global and often complex structural and operational nature of many
MNEs, it is not always clear which particular part of a MNE is responsible for any specific activity.
This is important to ascertain, as it will determine which NCP will deal with any specific issue.
