Capital Markets and Sustainability: Investing in a Sustainable Future

National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE)

The NRTEE’s Capital Markets and Sustainability program undertook to explore the relationship between capital markets, financial performance, and sustainability in Canada. While companies and pension funds are beginning to listen to the marketplace when it comes to integrating sustainability factors into strategic decisions there remain significant market barriers.

Capital Markets and Sustainability: Investing in a sustainable future identifies key market barriers to the integration of environmental, social and governance factors in investment decisions and presents a set of recommendations to overcoming issues related to fiduciary duty, materiality, and short-termism to promote economic competitiveness and environmental sustainability.
