As part of their ongoing spectrum allocation activities, the Department and the ITU have allocated frequency bands for use by stations in the aeronautical mobile service. These frequency bands reflect the decisions of the ITU World Administrative Radio Conference of 2003 as well as Canada's domestic usage.
This document contains an extract from the Canadian Table of Frequency Allocations listing the frequency bands allocated to the aeronautical mobile service.
Preface
Internal Procedures Circulars are issued for the guidance of departmental
staff. Although intended for internal use only, they are also available to the
public. The information contained in these circulars is subject to change
without notice. It is therefore suggested that interested persons consult the
nearest district office of Industry Canada for additional details. While
every reasonable effort has been made to ensure accuracy, no warranty is
expressed or implied. As well, these circulars have no status in law.

1. Intent
This circular outlines frequency bands allocated to the aeronautical mobile service for the purpose of
facilitating suitable frequency assignments for aircraft stations.
2. Mandate
Section 5 of the Radiocommunication Act authorizes the Minister to plan the allocation and use of the
radio frequency spectrum.
3. Policy
As part of their ongoing spectrum allocation activities, the Department and the ITU have allocated
frequency bands for use by stations in the aeronautical mobile service. These frequency bands reflect the
decision of the ITU World Administrative Radio Conference of 2003 and Canada's domestic usage.
The following tables provide an extract from the Canadian Table of Frequency Allocations (amended
February 2007) which lists frequency bands allocated to the aeronautical mobile service. Footnotes
pertaining to these allocations have not been included in this extract. Primary allocation status is
indicated in capital letters and secondary allocation status is indicated in normal characters.
Table 1 - Low-frequency (LF) and Medium-frequency (MF) Radiocommunications
This section applies to all frequency allocations in the range of 190 kHz to 1.8 MHz. These allocations
are used primarily for radiobeacon assignments.
If a radio station licence applicant requests a frequency assignment below 3 MHz, consult the following
Internal Procedures Circulars (IPC):
- IPC-2-2-04, Aeronautical Radionavigational Aids; and
- IPC-2-0-08, Frequency Selection Procedure for Stations Operating in the High Frequency (HF) Bands.

Table 2 - High-frequency (HF) Radiocommunications
This section applies to all allocations in the band from 2.850 MHz to 23.350 MHz. All emissions are
transmitted in the single-sideband suppressed carrier mode. The frequency assignments are normally for
communications between aircraft and ground stations.
If a licence applicant requests an aeronautical mobile frequency assignment below 30 MHz, consult IPC-2-0-08.
