Water

WaterNearly three-quarters of Earth's surface is covered with water - most of it saltwater. Approximately 99.6 percent of all freshwater is frozen in glaciers and icefields or located deep underground.

Canada's landmass contains about seven percent of the world's freshwater. Managing our vast water resources is a complex issue for which all levels of government share responsibility.

In this section, find information on water, water management, and environment-related water issues over which Environment Canada has jurisdiction.
