New interim Chair to the IRB

Ottawa, February 28, 2007 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, is pleased to name Brian P. Goodman, as interim Chair of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).

“Mr. Goodman has six years of solid experience with the IRB,” stated Minister Finley. “I look forward to working with him to promote a transparent and accountable system.”

Mr. Goodman is currently the Deputy Chair of the Immigration Appeal division of the Immigration and Refugee Board.  He joined the IRB in 2001 when he was appointed a member of the Refugee Protection Division. Before joining he served with various Ministries in the Government of Ontario.

Mr. Goodman holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Law (Public Law) degree from Osgoode Hall Law School as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. He has a number of awards and publications related to his work in the field of administrative justice.

Mr. Goodman will take up his new responsibilities effective March 17, 2007.
