Minister Finley announces a citizenship judge reappointment

Ottawa, May 2, 2007 — The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, today announced the reappointment of Robert Maxwell Morrow as a citizenship judge in Hamilton for a three-year term.

Robert M. Morrow was first appointed Citizenship Judge for Ontario in May 2004. Prior to this, he served as Mayor of Hamilton from 1982 to 2000, and as Alderman, Controller and Deputy-Mayor between 1972 and 1980. He established one of the country's first race relations and antidiscrimination committees. Judge Morrow has received awards, such as the Queen's Jubilee Medal, and honours from a wide variety of organizations and public bodies, including two senior knighthoods—one from the President of Poland and the other from the President of Italy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from the Waterloo Lutheran University, along with an Associateship from Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music in piano (solo performance).

Citizenship judges are responsible for making decisions with regard to citizenship applications, presiding over citizenship ceremonies and administering the oath of citizenship to new citizens.
