Competition Bureau

Fees and Service Standards

The Competition Bureau has established fees and service standards for certain services and regulatory processes under the Competition Act. These apply to Written Opinion requests, Advance ruling Certificate requests, Merger Notification Filings and photocopies.

Notice: View the GST/HST table

As a result of the Federal Budget on May 2, 2006, the GST and HST rates have been reduced by one per cent effective July 1, 2006 to 6% and 14% respectively.

Fees and Service Standards Policy

The Bureau's Fee and Service Standards Policy is consistent with the government's overall objective of fairness, which seeks to ensure that those who benefit most from a service should pay for it, rather than have all Canadians pay through general taxation. The Policy also recognizes the "public good" component related to the activities covered by the Policy. These fees have been developed within this framework and in consideration of other government and Bureau policy objectives.

Fees and Service Standards Handbook

This Handbook is based on the Policy and is intended to be used as reference material for those individuals or companies requesting the above-mentioned services and/or those who are bound by merger statutory requirements. The Handbook is also used by Bureau officers undertaking these activities as reference material.

Performance Report

The Bureau publishes its performance against service standards before every public forum consultation. You may consult these reports for information on how the Bureau performed against service standards and other related information.
