Unlocking Nature's Potential
Scientists at the National Research Council Institute for Nutrisciences and Health (NRC-INH) are involved in identifying how bioactive compounds found in nature can be used to improve human and animal health. Research focuses on the role natural compounds play in three key areas: neurological disorders (such as Alzheimer's disease); obesity-related disorders (such as Diabetes); and infection and immunity (such as viral infections).
Cluster Building
NRC-INH plays an important role in a cluster of natural compound research and development that is taking shape in the region. In addition to bringing world-class scientists, equipment and infrastructure to the table, the Institute presents a bold new model in research partnerships which goes beyond the mere sharing of space and equipment.
Model Approach
In this model, university, government and private sector scientists work side by side towards a common theme of discovery, innovation and commercialization. They collaborate with colleagues in the region and around the globe, ensuring that the latest technologies and methodologies are used to address critical health issues affecting Canadians and the population worldwide.
