Aboriginal Communities and Minerals and Metals Activity Maps (6)
The Aboriginal Communities and Minerals and Metals Activities maps show the vital role that minerals and metals play in supporting strong communities, peoples and economies by recognising and raising the awareness of potential economic opportunities for communities. The map series includes six maps; Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, Prairie Provinces, British Columbia and the Northern Territories. Each map is at a scale of 1:2 000 000 except the Northern Territories which is shown at a scale of 1: 4 000 000.
In this map series, Canadian communities with a significant Aboriginal population and currently producing mines are geographically displayed. Aboriginal Communities are displayed as pink dots, Producing Mines are purple triangles and First Nation Communities are displayed in red. Base map information also includes national parks, provincial parks, provincial, territorial and international borders, major roads and towns and capital cities.
Aboriginal communities, for purposes of these maps, are defined as those Canadian communities with a self-identified population of 20% or more Aboriginal people, as enumerated by the 1996 Census.
