Maintenance of an Industrial Design Registration

Industrial design registrations are valid for ten years from the date of registration, subject to payment of a maintenance fee. The fee must be paid by the registered proprietor or by the proprietor's agent, and payment may be made at any time during the first five-year period. After the five-year point, a six-month grace period exists during which maintenance may still be requested but payment of an additional fee is required.

Payments can be made using:

– American Express, MasterCard or VISA
– CIPO Deposit Account
This is not a debit card account. Please do not include any bank account information on the application. Contact the Client Service Centre for more information.

Maintaining a registered design:

a) If the request is received in accordance with subsection 18(1) of the Industrial Design Regulations: $350

b) If the request is received in accordance with subsection 18(2) of the Industrial Design Regulations: $400
