Minneapolis Hosts Green Building North Developments in Sustainable Building The Consulate General of Canada Minneapolis hosted an all-day forum in the Twin Cities for more than 150 architects, engineers, builders, students and policy makers that featured Canadian experts discussing the use of wood in sustainable building, as well as sustainable programs for the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010. “Green Building North,” also focused on the current developments in evolving Green Building guidelines and standards in Canada and the U.S. and showcased key sustainable projects in St. Paul, MN and Winnipeg, MB. Held on October 25, 2007, the forum allowed for the introduction of a new tool called the EcoCalculator, which can help determine environmental impacts of building materials and processes. The event also featured products from fourteen Canadian green-building companies. The Consulate General of Canada, the University of Minnesota’s Center for Sustainable Building Research, and AIA Minnesota (a society of The American Institute of Architects) co-hosted the event, which was registered for continuing education credits.
