Rekindling Relations with Canadians
In its 2002-2006 Strategic Plan, the NFB made a commitment to rekindle relations with Canadians in order to give them access to their audiovisual heritage. In the past few years, a variety of initiatives have been taken to achieve this:

  • Establishment of a high-tech media hub – the Mediatheque in Toronto similar to the CineRobotheque in Montreal – to enable the public to browse the NFB collection and view films onsite.
  • Greater access to the collection thanks to the CineRoute online delivery service and development of a multimedia catalogue containing 7,000 films and a powerful and precise search engine.
  • Creation of the NFB Film Club, a free membership program that includes a subscription to the Focus monthly newsletter, discounts on certain NFB products, and invitations to NFB film launches, master classes and other workshops. Two thousand members of the club were invited to subscribe to the public version of CineRoute, giving them direct access to 250 films for viewing online on their personal computers.
  • Creation of Outreach Development, whose mission is to renew ties with Canadians by organizing screenings of NFB films, offering educational workshops and master classes throughout the country, liaising with associations and partners, and managing the educational content of the NFB Web site.
