Amphibians and Reptiles

Nightsnake - Photo: Andrius ValadkaAmphibians and reptiles are vertebrates that get their body heat from the surrounding environment.

Reptiles, such as snakes and lizards, have thick, waterproof skin covered in scales. Although most amphibians, including frogs and salamanders, have lungs, they can also breathe through their skin because it is permeable. Their sensitivity to external conditions makes amphibians a useful indicator of environmental health.

This section contains information on amphibians and reptiles and how they are being affected by climate change and other environmental factors.
