Jim Popp says he wants to stay on as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes.
But it is up to owner Robert Wetenhall and team president Larry Smith to decide whether Popp will keep his jobs as head coach and general manager, or give up one or both tasks.
"I'm definitely not a quitter," Popp said Tuesday. "I know what things we've done in this organization for one year and I plan to continue being the head coach.
"But that's totally out of my hands. They're the two men that hired me to be the head coach and if there is a change, it's entirely their decision. It's out of my hands."
Popp has one year left on his contract as head coach and three years left as general manager.
A report said veteran players on the team would be consulted on whether Popp should keep the coaching job, although none would confirm that players held a season-ending meeting at Olympic Stadium.
In his first full year as head coach, the Alouettes went 8-10 and lost the CFL East Division semifinal 24-22 on Sunday to the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
It was the first time since the team returned to Montreal after a 10-year hiatus in 1996 that they did not have a winning record.
