Monday, December 17, 2007 Tobacco ads in Montreal have begun reappearing in Montreal weekly magazines such as Montreal Mirror and The Hour.  The weeklies are one thing, but as of today, Quebec's Health and Social Services ministry is posting guidelines on its website for merchants who sell cigarettes.  And the guidelines are not voluntary. As of May 31, 2008, Quebec stores will not be allowed to promote any brands of cigarettes in a display, and the cigarettes themselves must disappear from view. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 Commuters who use the orange line between Henri-Bourassa and Berri-UQAM say it's overcrowded. The Laval metro extension appears to be victim of its success. The Montreal Transit Commission says 50,000 riders use it everyday, well above the 34,000 it had anticipated. And with the snow storm on Sunday, there are even more Laval commuters choosing to leave the car at home. Gilles Vaillancourt is the mayor of Laval. Wednesday, December 19, 2007 On Tuesday we received an email from a long-time commuter from Baie D'Urfe. He wrote: "As a long-time user, I cannot recall when the service has been as deplorable as currently." Shortly after we received that email the Quebec government announced it is spending more than 386 million to improve commuter train service in Montreal. We thought we'd phone Murray Douglas and ask him how he would like to see the money spent. We also spoke with Joel Gauthier. Friday December 21, 2007 Montrealers are still struggling to get around after the snow storm on Sunday. We received an email from a listener who is having a harder time getting around than most. Pavel Morawski wrote: If you think it's difficult to move around the city on your feet and in your car, let me tell you what a royal pain it is for me in a wheelchair. I cannot even get to the Provigo across the street, as there is too much snow piled up in front of my building as well as Provigo. We've reached Pavel Morawski by phone.
