Vital Statistics

The Vital Statistics Division of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations is responsible for registration of vital events of birth, death, marriage and stillbirth which occur in the province of Nova Scotia. Official Certificates are issued from information contained on these registrations.

New Nova Scotia Birth Certificate
Beginning December 3, 2007, Nova Scotia will be the first province in Canada to launch a new highly secure and durable bilingual birth certificate. The certificate, which is the new Canadian standard, is the most secure birth certificate in the world.
