“The public service must continue to adapt to meet the changing realities
of Canadian society and be well equipped to best serve Canadians in the coming
years,” said the Prime Minister when he announced his new Advisory
Committee on the Public Service of Canada in November 2006. “This is particularly
true as the current baby boom generation retires.”
“The future
development of the Public Service requires sound advice, innovative solutions
and strong support from both within and outside government.”
The Prime Minister
The Head of the Public Service focused on Public Service renewal and the importance of ensuring that Canada maintains a professional and vibrant federal Public Service in his
Fourteenth Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada . The report establishes priorities and defines realistic goals over the next five years. These priorities include better human resources planning, more effective recruitment, more targeted employee development, and establishing the infrastructure to support ongoing renewal.
Public Service renewal is a priority for the Canada Public Service Agency. The Agency is providing policy and operational support to both the
Prime Minister's Advisory Committee on the Public Service and the Deputy
Ministers' Committee on Public Service Renewal. It may also be called upon to
lead a number of new initiatives resulting from this work.
