Implementation of Section 41 of the
Official Languages Act

Human Resources Directorate

OBJECTIVE: To promote the value of bilingualism within the Department of Justice by distributing information and raising employee awareness so that they understand the various benefits of these practices and appreciate how they enhance the value of the Department's work.

PRINCIPAL MEASURES

OUTPUTS 2002-2003

  • Confirm and define the level of knowledge existing among officials in the Department concerning the official languages and especially the language of work.
  • The two Champion of Official Languages, Dawn Edlund and Mario Dion, have continued their series of meetings with portfolio managers in order to confirm and clarify their knowledge of this area and the importance of their leadership roles and to inform them about the tools they can use to create an environment conducive to the development of the two official languages. Topics discussed include bilingual meetings and best practices in this regard.
  • Enable employees in the NCR to maintain the levels they have attained in the second language.
  • In order to continue to meet the needs of employees from both communities in the capital, the Human Resources Branch offered a series of workshops focusing on grammar.
