Youth Justice Policy

OBJECTIVE: Ensure the dissemination of information on the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and its implementation in both official languages.

PRINCIPAL MEASURES

OUTPUTS 2002-2003

  • Distribute explanatory material with regard to the implementation of the YCJA in both official languages.
  • Hold national conferences on specific issues related to the YCJA.
  • Meetings for justice stakeholders in all jurisdictions were held in Fall 2002, over 1700 participants attended.
  • Hold roundtable discussions of experts on specific issues related to youth justice.
  • Six national forums were hosted by YJP, simultaneous translation was available.
  • Distribute YCJA learning tool for youth in both official languages.
  • A number of Public Legal Education and Information publications are available in both official languages
  • Negotiate agreements with public legal education organisations to ensure that the needs of both official languages communities are considered in developing publications on youth justice and in particular on the YCJA.

  • Ensure that the postings on the Youth Justice web site are in both official languages.
