The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Trade of the Republic of Kenya through the Kenya High Commission in Ottawa is in the process of identifying a candidate to represent Kenya as Honorary Consul in Toronto, Canada.
Interested candidates must meet the following criteria for consideration:
•    Citizens/permanent residents of Canada
•    Have strong links with, or have demonstrated strong interest in establishing links with Kenya;
•    Not be an Honorary Consul of any other country;
•    Reside full-time in Toronto, where the Consular post will be located and conduct their main business or professional activities in this locality;
•    Able to provide suitable offices and office equipment, dedicated for the use in the Honorary Consulate;
•    Able to maintain regular office hours, and
•    Not be engaged in any remunerated activities as public servants of any level, or be Members of Parliament, legislature or municipal council;
•    Fluent in English;
•    Knowledgeable in the current business and political affairs of both  Kenya and Canada;

The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) of the Republic of Kenya was in Canada from 26th October, 2013 to 3rd November, 2013 for a parliamentary study visit to the Parliament of Canada and the Ontario Legislative Assembly (OLA). The delegation was led by Senator David Musila, Senator of Kitui County and accompanied by Senator Sammy Leshore, M.P., (Samburu County), Honourable Jimmy Angwenyi, M.P., (Kitutu Chache Constituency), Honourable Regina Chang’orok Nyeris, M.P., (West Pokot Constituency), Honourable Gladys Nyasuna Atieno, M.P., (Homa Bay County) and Mr. Jeremiah Nyengenye, Clerk of the Senate and the Secretary to the PSC.

The agenda for the visit was to understand the administration and management of a bicameral Parliamentary system in Canada. The Commission identified the Parliament of Canada as ideal for the benchmarking exercise owing to the similarities in managing bicameral setting and more so the existence of the Board of Internal Economy, an administrative body comparable to the Commission. Other areas of interest included operations and management of the Senate and the House of Commons, facilities provided for the members of Parliament, the structure and staffing at the Parliament of Canada and the relationship between the Parliament of Canada and the other Provincial and Territorial Assemblies.

The Kenya High Commission in Ottawa informs that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology will no longer be providing partial bursaries to students studying in foreign countries. However, affected students are kindly advised to look for alternative ways to fund their educational and subsistence expenses abroad.

Nonetheless, the Ministry, through the Higher Education Loan’s Board (HELB) is currently working on a mechanism to avail loan facilities to students studying abroad. The same will be communicated once this is effected.
