Taking Measures to Reduce Line ups

Canadians travelling BY AIR to the United States after January 23, 2007 will need to have a valid passport.

For the time being, if you are NOT TRAVELLING BY AIR, you do not need a passport to enter the United States.

As a result of the confusion surrounding this new requirement, Passport Canada is experiencing a high volume of passport demand. In November 2006, Passport Canada received 355,474 passport applications compared to 267,303 in November 2005. This represents an increase of 88,171 applications or 33%.

Passport Canada recommends that applicants mail-in their application or visit one of our Canada Post / Service Canada receiving agents.

Passport Canada asks Canadians who do not require a passport now to submit their application later in the spring.

To avoid delays: present a complete application

  • A complete application form signed by the applicant and guarantor
  • Two identical passport photos - 1 signed by the guarantor
  • Original proof of citizenship
  • At least one official piece of identification in the name to appear on the passport
  • Any Canadian travel document issued in the past 5 years
  • All custody documents regarding children
  • Fee:
    • $87 for an adult
    • $37 for children 3 to 15
    • $22 for children under 3
