The International Mobility of the Highly Skilled: A Case of the Biotechnology Sector in Vancouver, B.C. Abstract The study examines the migratory nature of professionals in the B.C. biotechnology sector. With in-depth interviews of the human resource managers of firms and some chief scientists and executives, the findings reveal that foreign workers constitute a significant part of executives and professionals in the biotechnology sector in the Vancouver area. The study also examines factors that influence the movement of these highly skilled professionals and executives, and provides a better understanding of the role of networks and strategic alliances among these scientific professionals and executives. |
