PROPOSED REGULATORY TEXT
Notice is hereby given that the Governor in Council, pursuant to paragraph 36(1)(b) and subsection 36(3) of the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act (see footnote a), proposes to make the annexed First Nations Local Revenue Law Review Regulations.
Interested persons may make representations with respect to the proposed Regulations within 30 days after the date of publication of this notice. All such representations must cite the Canada Gazette, Part I, and the date of publication of this notice, and be addressed to Sheila Dubyk, Institutional Development, Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Room 18J, 10 Wellington Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 0H4 (tel.: 819-994-1330; fax: 819-997-0034).

INTERPRETATION |
Definition of "Act" |
|
1. In these Regulations, "Act" means the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act. |
|

REFERRAL TO PANEL |

2. (1) On receipt of a property taxation law referred to in paragraph 10(a) of the Act that was submitted to the Commission for approval, the Commission may refer the law to a panel composed of one or more Commissioners to conduct a review of it under section 31 of the Act. |

(2) On receipt of any other property taxation law, or a law made under paragraph 5(1)(c) of the Act, that was submitted to the Commission for approval, the Commission may refer the local revenue law to a panel composed of three or more Commissioners to conduct a review of it under section 31 of the Act. |

3. If a panel constituted under section 2 is not completely satisfied that a law referred to it for review complies with the Act and any regulations and standards made under the Act, the panel shall refer the law for review by the Commission as a whole. |

4. These Regulations come into force on the day on which they are registered. |
