Regulatory Amendment to the Hazardous Products (Kettles) Regulations to Lower Maximum Leachable Lead Level

Title:
Regulatory Amendment to the Hazardous Products (Kettles) Regulations to Lower Maximum Leachable Lead Level
Description:
The proposed change to the Hazardous Products (Kettles) Regulations is being done to harmonize the regulations with the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality (SEP, 2004) and also to reduce the Canadian public’s exposure to lead as stipulated in the CPSB Lead Risk Reduction Strategy document. This amendment entails lowering the maximum leachable lead level under section 3 of the Hazardous Products (Kettles) Regulations from “0.05 ppm or more” to “more than 0.01 ppm”. Companies have already shown a 88.9% complaince rating with this level from our last cyclical enforcement activity on these products during fiscal year 06/07. Therefore, minimal resistance is expected by both public and industry on this endeavour.
