Meals on Wheels

The Windsor-Essex VON offers the support program  Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels promotes the health and well-being of homebound and sometimes isolated individuals who, for health reasons, are unable to prepare meals for themselves.  Meals are delivered Monday through Friday.  A frozen meal program is also available.  For more information, call 519-254-4866 ext. 6213.

The Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County is in dire need of volunteer drivers.  Drivers are asked to commit to assisting 1 day per week with the transportation of clients to and from day programs.  The commitment requires 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.  Drivers are accompanied by a trained staff member who will provide direct care to the clients.  Four hours can make a difference.  To volunteer call 519-974-2220 ext. 18.

The Essex Retirees are hosting a 2008 Information & Active Living Fair on Thursday, January 24th.  This event takes place at the Essex Retirees Social Club, 32 Russell Street.  The Fair begins at 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Admission is free.  Special presentations on "Living Well with Diabetes", "Save Meds for Seniors", "Coping with Depression" and more.  There will be free health screenings, doors prizes, and interactive booths.  For more details, call 519-776-6689.

The Salvation Army Neighbourhood Services Centre is hosting a free workshop "Fire Safety & Prevention for Parents" on Thursday, January 31st.  The centre is located at 3199 Lauzon Road.  The workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Learn about planning an escape route, facts about smoke alarms, fire safety for kids and adults, as well as kitchen and electrical safety.  You must register by Thursday, January 24th.  To register, call 519-944-4922.
