Cultural Tourism in Canada

People from all over the world have visions of Canada with vast expanses of unspoiled nature and protected parks. Yet when they arrive, many are surprised to discover a diverse and avant-garde cultural scene that is proportionate to the size of the country – museums, festivals, galleries, design, fashion, academic institutions, cuisine, and new media.

Canada is a lot more than its natural wonders - unique cultural tourist attractions now bring millions of travellers to Canada each year. Banff in Alberta is an amazing national park, but it is also home to a world-class centre for artists, and Prince Edward Island may be renowned for Anne of Green Gables but it is also the home of a popular jazz and blues festival. Trois-Rivières, Québec bills itself as the poetry capital of the world thanks to its annual International Festival of Poetry that draws thousands of people each year. And people are still mystified by the far North.  Who would guess that Cape Dorset, Nunavut is the place in Canada with the most artists per capita? 

Canada is truly a place to travel and re-discover. The natural wonders will continue to impress, but the cultural wonders may take some by surprise.
