Social Groups in Canada

Harmony is one of the pillars of Canada. Our credo is that every social group enriches our culture, builds our heritage and connects us with the world.

Each group, without regard for religion, orientation, race, sex, or ideology, has the same rights, the same freedom and the same opportunities. This is a fact that is entrenched in our laws and our Constitution.

Canadians are keenly aware that not all groups benefit from the same resources in order to fully contribute to Canadian society. Beyond the official legal dispositions, the principles of equality for all Canadians are upheld in our social practices including public support for the initiatives that allow specific groups to flourish and actively participate in Canadian society.

Canadians know that material well being alone is not the only measure of quality of life. The well being of its numerous communities, the preservation of personal freedom of action and expression, the promotion of cultural diversity are all key factors. Those principles are not lost on Canadians.

The result is a country that is not perfect, but where grand principles are truly part of everyday life – a country based on the belief that prosperity in all its forms is a collective reality.
