Canadian Industry

The link between the health of a society and the health of its economy is evident. Resources to support culture, environment, infrastructure, and all the elements of our social safety net come directly from economic activity including trade and industry.

Canada’s industry has traditionally been based on the exploitation of natural resources including forestry, fisheries, mining, and agriculture. Those industrial sectors are still very important, but Canada is now predominantly a knowledge-based economy – information technology, international trade, cultural industries, research and development, as well as goods and services provided on a global basis.

Canadians are among the most skilled and educated people in the world, and Canada has one of the most open economies, placing us among the leaders in terms of growth, employment, fiscal management, and foreign investment. These are the elements that make Canada one of the best places to live and to conduct business.

Prosperity has not detracted Canada from its fundamental values of acceptance, compassion and cultural diversity. Buoyant industries coupled with a strong economy result in the highest standards in quality of life, and the opportunity for all to participate.
