Legislation and House Planning
The Legislation and House Planning Secretariat supports the Prime Minister in coordinating and managing the Government’s legislative program. To do this, the secretariat works closely with the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister for Democratic Reform and the Leader of the Government in the Senate.
The secretariat’s work involves:
-
Preparing and managing the Government’s legislative program in Parliament (both in the House of Commons and the Senate);
-
Providing advice on parliamentary practices, procedures and issues;
-
Coordinating government responses to written parliamentary questions, notices of motion (requesting documents) and petitions (parliamentary returns);
-
Developing policy and legislation relating to democratic and electoral reform.
