Supervisory Framework

The Supervisory Framework (PDF format), published by the Regulatory and Supervisory Practices Division at OSFI, was developed to provide an effective process to assess the safety and soundness of regulated financial institutions. Copies were sent to the supervised institutions (see cover letter).

As indicated in the Framework's Key Principles, OSFI will be sharing its assessments with institutions through supervisory ratings. Assessment Criteria for the supervisory ratings were developed over a two-year period with input from supervised industries through their associations. These criteria are not required standards, but will be used to guide supervisory assessments in individual cases.
