This season’s series of four Kinderconcerts begins this weekend on November 19 in the Panorama Room presented by the NAC Orchestra and Jeunesses Musicales Canada

Ottawa, Canada -- The National Arts Centre Orchestra and Jeunesses Musicales Canada are again collaborating to present a four-part Sunday afternoon “Kinderconcerts” series designed to introduce 3- to 8-year-olds to the magic of music and rhythm in a variety of forms. Due to the popularity of the series, the English concerts have doubled and there is now one at 11:00 for 3- to 5-year-olds and one at 13:30 for 5-to-8-year-olds. The French concert is at 15:00. All Kinderconcerts take place in the intimate setting of the NAC Panorama Room. Bring cushions for the kids! Seating is on the floor.

Steve Grenier, François Rainville, François Perron play everything from medieval fiddle to Irish flute, tromba marina and even an oud! Come on an adventure to medieval Europe with these three members of Skarazula! Travel with them along the roads of France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, the countries of Eastern Europe… You’ll hear songs in many different languages and discover some rather peculiar instruments.

A Cello for Chelsea

NAC Orchestra cellist Margaret Munro Tobolowska presents the story that she has recorded on a popular CD of the same name. When Chelsea, a shy young girl with a vivid imagination, meets Chester the Cello, she discovers her musical talent – and her love of the cello! Enjoy the sound of this wonderful instrument as you accompany Margaret, Chelsea and Chester on their inspirational journey. A musical story for the young and the young at heart!

Le Dixieband: A journey to Dixieland

Le Dixieband brings electrifying new vitality to the red-hot strains and hard-driving rhythms of traditional New Orleans jazz. In song, dance and dream, a lively old lady called Miss New Orleans recalls her marvelous memories of the Blues, the Charleston, the Shimmy and the Scat. A magical, rhythmic show that will educate and enchant the whole family!

Ticket prices:
$12.00 for Adult & $6.00 for Children.
Family Pass (valid for any combination of four adults and children) $25

The series is sold out, but tickets for each concert might become available at the last minute. These can be purchased at the NAC Box Office (Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00), and through Ticketmaster (with surcharges) at 613-755-1111. Ticketmaster may also be accessed through the NAC’s web-site at www.nac-cna.ca.
