Behind the Music at the NAC: 2007 Lecture and Performance Series

January 03, 2007 -

OTTAWA -- The Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (formerly NACOA) is pleased to announce its 2007 lecture and performance series, “Behind the Music”. The four Saturday morning lectures and performances will feature members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and rising young artists, many of whom have benefited from the support of the Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

“I am delighted we are, yet again, able to offer this highly popular series featuring talented musicians in a format which allows the audience to pose questions and interact with them in a more personal setting than a large concert hall,” said Josie Finestone, President of the Friends of the NAC Orchestra.

The inaugural lecture in the 2007 series will take place on Saturday, January 6, and will feature three brilliant young artists. Pianist Bryan Wagorn, cellist Loewi Lin, and flutist Lauren Sileo will perform in the Fourth Stage at the NAC and will discuss their current studies at prestigious American music schools.

On Saturday, February 3, the NAC Orchestra’s principal librarian, Margo Hodgson, will discuss the fascinating work of an orchestra librarian and, with the assistance of Karen Donnelly, the Orchestra’s Principal Trumpet, will demonstrate what could happen if the librarian has not done what needs to be done.

The third lecture/perfomance, on Saturday, April 14, will feature Margaret Munro Tobolowska, a cellist with the NAC Orchestra, who will share A Cello for Chelsea, her delightful children’s story in words and music.

The final event, on Saturday, June 9, will showcase two very talented NAC Orchestra musicians, Jessica Linnebach on the violin and Jethro Marks on the viola, both of whom are also members of the Zukerman ChamberPlayers.

All four events run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $40.00 for the full series for Friends and $48.00 for others and may be purchased by sending a cheque payable to Friends of the NAC Orchestra to Pamela Robinson, 219 Lennox Park Ave., Ottawa, Ont. K1G 0K3. Single event tickets at $12.00 for Friends and $14.00 for others, may be purchased at the door.
