Behind the Music - The Librarian and the Trumpet on Feb. 3
January 31, 2007 -
OTTAWA -- The Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra is pleased to announce the second in its four-part lecture series, "Behind the Music". Entitled "The Librarian and the Trumpet", the lecture will feature the Orchestra's chief librarian, Margo Hodgson, who will discuss the challenges facing a professional music librarian in working with the musicians and the conductor to ensure perfection on the podium and the stage. Assisting her will be the NAC Orchestra's Principal Trumpet, Karen Donnelly, who will provide musical illustrations and demonstrate how the relationship between the librarian and the orchestra works and what could go wrong if it didn't.
"Having seen Margo's work at close hand and listened to her talking about her profession, I can guarantee that this lecture will change your perceptions of how the Orchestra prepares for a performance. It will also change the way you hear the orchestra and enhance your appreciation what goes into creating the performance you witness", said Josie Finestone, President of the Friends.
The lecture/performance will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 3rd in Le Salon at the NAC. Tickets, which may be purchased at the door, are $12.00 for Friends and $14.00 for non-members.
