Jack Everly leads CTV Pops concerts From Vienna with Love, June 14-16. Celebrate the NAC Orchestra season finale in post-concert parties with the musicians and cast

June 06, 2007 -

Ottawa, Canada -- Love, laughter and glorious melody mark the magical journey from Vienna to London to Broadway and beyond. Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly and a cast of brilliant singers and dancers present a grand journey beginning with the waltzes, wine and wonderment of Viennese operetta through the glorious musicals of the 20th century. From Vienna with Love, the final National Arts Centre Orchestra CTV Pops programme of the season, takes place from Thursday, June 14 to Saturday, June 16 at 20:00 in Southam Hall. To celebrate the finale of the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s regular season, the audience is invited to stay and party in the Foyer with Jack and the cast and the musicians of the NAC Orchestra after each concert, with music and refreshments.

This musical journey begins in Vienna where glittering operettas set the whole world singing. Thrill to romance-filled selections from Lehar’s The Merry Widow and Romberg’s The Student Prince, to Friml’s “Song of the Vagabonds” and “Donkey Serenade”; Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado and a glorious salute to the waltz music of Johann Strauss Jr. Then enter into the great musicals of the 20th century including Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate, Loewe’s Gigi, Wright & Forrest’s Kismet, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and Bernstein’s Candide.

This musical showcase will be brought to life by a trio of singers who have starred in musicals, operettas and operas all over North America: soprano Cara Johnston, tenor Chad Freeburg and baritone Curtis Sullivan. Chorusmaster Laurence Ewashko has prepared the glorious choral ensemble which combines the Ewashko Singers and the Opera Lyra Ottawa Chorus.
