June 26, 2002 -

Ottawa, Canada -- National Arts Centre Orchestra principal musicians Joanna G'froerer (flute), Charles Hamann (oboe) and Karen Donnelly (trumpet) will step into the spotlight for the Great Composers Festival concert conducted by Music Director Pinchas Zukerman on Tuesday, July 9 at 19:30 in NAC's Southam Hall. The concert titled "Great Baroque Composers" consists of music by Bach, Fasch and Vivaldi and also features the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, prepared by Laurence Ewashko.

Tickets for the concert include a Pre-Concert Chamber Music recital beginning at 18:15 in Southam Hall.

The main concert at 19:30 begins with NACO principal flute Joanna G'froerer performing Bach's Partita in A minor for Solo Flute. Bach's Concerto for Oboe and Violin will see NACO's principal oboe Charles Hamann joined by Music Director Pinchas Zukerman leading the Orchestra from the violin. The second half also begins with a solo: German violinist Viviane Hagner, a mentor in the NAC's Young Artists Programme, will perform Bach's "Chaconne" from Partita in D minor. The concert closes with two choral works by the Cantata Singers of Ottawa: Bach's motet Der Gerechte kömmt um and Vivaldi's Kyrie in G minor.
